Democrats to Host Rally in
Appleton Saturday in Protest of
GOP Convention
Will Highlight Major Differences Between Democrats and Republicans on Issues Important to Wisconsin Families, Including Stem Cell Research
MADISON – As Republicans gather for their state convention in Appleton this weekend, local Democrats will host a candidate rally on Saturday morning to show how Democrats, who are fighting for the issues Wisconsin families care about most, will be victorious this November.
The rally will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Houdini Plaza on the corner of Appleton Street and College Avenue in Appleton. The three Democratic candidates for the 8th Congressional District – Dr. Steve Kagen, Nancy Nusbaum, and Jamie Wall – will speak at the rally, along with State Representative Tom Nelson.
The rally will also highlight the major difference between Democrats and Republicans on stem cell research, most notably Governor Doyle’s record of promoting stem cell research versus Mark Green’s record of trying to ban and even criminalize stem cell research. A local Appleton woman whose family would benefit greatly from stem cell research will be recognized at the rally and will be available to talk to the media. Jane Oie’s husband has Parkinson’s Disease, while her son has Type 1 Diabetes.
